EDITOR – Notwithstanding notice in the Highway Mail and on East Coast Radio that the main supply of water would be cut off to various areas on Thursday, 8 and Friday, 9 September, causing many households to purchase extra containers and also causing schools to close.
Umgeni Water announced on the very day of the restriction that they were not going ahead with cutting off the supply of water, as scheduled, and that it would be postponed to a later date – to be advised.
It is quite amazing as I thought to myself at the time that I read the notice that it wouldn’t go ahead as planned – simply because one cannot trust the authorities any longer, since their word is not their bond and is meaningless, resulting in great confusion and inconvenience to the general public.
