Job losses show SA’s shrinking economy

Letter to the Editor - week ending 12 August.

EDITOR – The Stats SA job statistics report for the second quarter of 2016 has revealed that a devastating 129 000 more jobs have been lost in comparison with the first quarter of the year.

The decline comes after 60 months of overall positive growth in jobs.

These figures are yet more evidence of South Africa’s shrinking economy. Of particular concern are the 127 000 job losses from sectors which include health and social services – both vital areas.

The creation of proper jobs is one of the DA’s main focus areas. We believe that through investment in infrastructure-led growth it is possible to create an environment conducive to private sector investment, which in turn creates jobs.

Our promise and offer is simple.

Where we govern, we want to build on the progress we have already made. Where we do not govern yet, we want to bring the change to your city or town. This includes stopping corruption, delivering better services and creating jobs.
