EDITOR – My husband, Christo, was turning 40 on Monday, 1 August, my brother in-law, Jacques, and I decided that my hubby deserved to have a great birthday. So I phoned up Café Goa in Malvern to book a table for us for dinner. I called them only to be told they don’t open on Monday. I was very disappointed as we have been to Café Goa for years on our anniversary except this year, due to finances.
I was trying to find somewhere else to go but couldn’t find anywhere I wanted. To my surprise, I got a phone call from Lee Jatho the owner of Café Goa. She said she saw we wanted to go there for my husband’s birthday. I said to her I can’t expect her to open for us. Lee said they would open the restaurant just for us. I was speechless. I could not believe what she had said. Lee said she would get the staff to come in just for us. Words could not explain the appreciation. I was overjoyed by this kindness. And I could not tell my hubby what was going on as I wanted to surprise him.
Lee said she would decorate for us at no charge which was just so amazing. The evening came, we managed to get my husband to the restaurant. And the sight was just amazing. Balloons, candles champagne on ice it was the perfect setting. The food was absolutely delicious. And they really went all out for us. My husband couldn’t believe we had the whole restaurant all for us. It’s not heard of where someone will open a restaurant just for five people.
I would like to thank Lee and Nic Jatho the owners of Café Goa, Rowan Harper, the waiter, his service was top notch the best service ever. He wasn’t just doing it because he had to, he showed such passion in everything he did and knew exactly what he was talking about. And to chefs Sipho and Nic, the food was out of this world and the drinks, oh my word. The place to eat and the milkshakes are to die for. Once again thank you to Lee and staff for a night we will never forget.
