The state of Pinetown is shameful

Letter to the Editor - week ending 15 July 2016.

EDITOR – I have lived in the area for more than 36 years and am ashamed to say I live in Pinetown. Here is why…

I travel in and around Durban, Pinetown, Hillcrest, Kloof and Durban North areas in the course of my job. I see the gutters, verges and roadsides being cleaned in all these areas but not orphan Annie Pinetown. Looking around, it appears we are not part of the eThekwini Municipality because I never ever see sweepers or cleaners. The M7 going towards Queensburgh has become the new Pinetown dump, it appears that the rubbish being dumped there is from households. Why on earth would someone do that when we have refuse removal weekly?

I would love to know who instructs staff on a daily basis of where to clean because the Pinetown area is completely forgotten. It makes me wonder why. Is it that we don’t have a VIP living in our area? We pay the same rates as all the other areas so cannot accept what is happening on our doorstep. As for the new ANC cleanup operation that was launched some weeks back, it’s all been forgotten and no one cares. I see people throwing rubbish out of their vehicle windows without any care or guilt and that includes taxis and police vehicles.

Come on ANC municipality, clean up our area, be fair. You may even score some points. Come on all you Pinetown homeowners, are you not disgusted with our streets and by roads? Why should we not get the service all the other areas enjoy?
