Thanks for nothing

"This in turn will lead to more taxi strikes and chaos."

EDITOR – To the people at the Department of Transport, thank you so much for having the courtesy to inform registered motor vehicle owners that due to a problem in Pretoria, no licence renewal forms have been received by the KZN Department since August, and that you have no idea what is happening or going to happen in the future.

Instead I was given the number of the Pretoria office and told if I wanted to know what was going to happen, I should ask them.

First of all, if we were aware that there was a problem we would have checked our licence discs and thus avoided having to pay penalties on late payments.

Secondly, as the fees increase annually, we do not know how much we need to pay. It was so much easier in the past when we received our renewal notices and paid via cheque, thus avoiding spending the whole day at the Transport Department to pay it. They cannot cope with the volume of people as it is, and this is going to create even longer queues and a whole lot more people will be losing their tempers when they are liable for penalties on top of the licence fee, or get traffic fines as well, as we were not reminded that our licences had expired.

This in turn will lead to more taxi strikes and chaos.

We, the hard-working honest people, have to just pay and sit back and watch our money burn, due to poor management and mismanagement of funds.

No more ‘Cry the Beloved Country’, but ‘Weep and Wail the Beloved Country’.
