Motorists must adhere to road markings

Motorists should pay attention to road markings to avoid accidents.

EDITOR – I encourage people who are driving from the Pick ‘n Pay car park in Hillcrest (from the small roundabout) across Old Main Road to the Hillcrest Corner multi-storey car park (Checkers/Woolworths), to look carefully at the road markings.

The left hand lane is only for people turning left. The right hand lane is for people turning right and for people going straight on, ie. into the Hillcrest Corner car park. During several times, I have nearly been taken out (and I have seen it happen to others) because people get onto the left land, but then drive straight across, which is dangerous for pedestrians who are crossing on the right lane. The interesting thing is that they then yell at the people in the correct lane.

Obviously they think they are in the right (which they are not) so perhaps they should have a good look at the road markings.

  1. In reply to the comment posted by Mr. Chris Clark regarding handyman deficits, I wish to point out that I am a Senior MEP Project Manager who finds it near impossible to work due to the following:
1.) People are not prepared to cover costs of quoting even though we deduct the fee off a successful quote at the invoice stage. This is unacceptable due to the petrol price and time spent at our costs. A minimum expense to us, of R350 per quote is the norm.
2.) Often the client does not / cannot pay the bill due to their situation and we end up doing the job for nothing.
3.) We pride ourselves with ALWAYS being on site and within time, unless there are major variations.
4.) We have an impeccable record of actualy saving the client money, by using diverse suppliers and product.
5.) the culture of saving money by using the cheapest means is causing people to pay almost 3 times the original costs to repair/ replace the damage caused by paying peanuts and getting monkeys.

Even with this in mind, it is impossible to operate with the current culture of the clients, as shown above and this is the reason that there are so little qualified contractors available.
We are just as frustrated as the Clients.

  2. Can something please be done about the excessive speeding on Howick Drive, Waterfall.

I believe a couple of speed humps and strategic points should be erected.

Residents living further in Howick Dr take advantage of this stretch of road to speed and are inconsiderate in respect of noise levels.

Please people this is a residential suburb. Your speed limit should be 40, not 140.
