The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal mourns the death of 24 people who passed away in a gruesome accident in Pinetown this evening.

It is very saddening that when the people of KwaZulu-Natal were still reeling in shock after the death of nine people including seven maidens who were returning from the annual Reed Dance Festival in Nongoma on Sunday, we now again loose so many people in one accident.

Whilst sending its heartfelt condolences to the families of those who have passed away and wishes for speedy recovery to the injured, the ANC is concerned with the growing number of people dying on our roads.

We call on law enforcement agencies to work hard in making sure that those who disregard the rules are put behind bars.

It is clear that if nothing is done, these road carnages will continue to rob us of more people. We will have to work together to find a way of developing preventative measures to curb these accident as failure to do so will result to many loss of lives.

Whenever there is an accident, many people get affected and in most cases many families loose bread winners. Without being judgmental, many people who lose their lives are the poor who are entirely dependent on public transport.

It is high time that we needed a much more informed analyses on what cases theses accident.

The ANC wants to assure the families of the victims of its support during this difficult time.
