Bedding drive is underway

Hanneli Preston of Aunty Hanneli’s Helping Hands is collecting new pillows, comforters and toiletries for residents living at Hepburn House. Items can be donated or pledges can be made.

PILLOWS and comforters are two of many items that are at the top of the list for Aunty Hanneli’s Helping Hands (AHHH).

The reason for this is that residents of Hepburn House at the KZN Care Association are in dire need of them.

AHHH, run by Hanneli Preston, has various drives throughout the year to assist people with their various needs, and when she visited the home, she saw the need for bedding and started a drive.

“The condition of the bedding was not good. The residents at Hepburn House have cerebral palsy so most of their lives are spent in bed. Bedding, especially pillows, have to be replaced regularly, however, the home does not have the means to. We are asking that the public donate new pillows so that the residents can be comfortable,” she said.

Preston said that the drive has taken off at a slow speed as brand-new pillows are expensive, however, she has managed to find a store that sells them at R120 for four.

“I am hoping to have 100 pillows donated by the end of November. If people can’t donate pillows, they are welcome to bequest R120, and I will purchase the pillows on their behalf,” she said.

The community can also sponsor the purchase of a comforter for R110.

“We’d also like to put together a small toiletry pack with a snack for each resident, so we we looking for toiletry items to be sponsored, as well. Alternatively, you can sponsor pillows, a comforter and toiletries as well as a snack for one resident at R300,” she said.

“Everyone loves the look and feel of having fresh, clean linen to sleep on. It shouldn’t be any different for these residents, too. If anyone would like to sponsor any of the items or make a full sponsorship, it will be most appreciated by AHHH and Hepburn House,” she said.

New pillows can also be dropped off at BARCode 4093 (Queensburgh Sports Association) in Escombe.
