Pinetown members’ hard work pays off

The Pinetown SAPS Station Commander is proud of their staff who were awarded in the eThekwini District Excellence Awards.

IT was a delightful moment as Pinetown SAPS Station Commander Brigadier Leon Matthysen witnessed his team sweep most awards at the eThekwini District Excellence Awards last month.

This marked a historic win for the station. “A first in years, this showed that exceptional dedication and hard work pay off,” said Matthysen.

“When my members walked on stage as nominees, I was more confident than they were – I knew they were in it to win it! And win they did!

“The excitement was palpable as our members erupted in jubilation, and this victory has boosted the confidence of the rest of our members, showing them that success is possible,” said a proud station commander.

This prestigious event recognises the outstanding achievements of police officers and support staff who have gone above and beyond in serving their communities.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer Jennifer Naidu won Administration Employee of the Year Level 5–7.

Sergeant Sugar Sosibo claimed the Detective and Forensic Employee of the Year Award Level 5–7. The High Risk Team of the Year went to Pinetown Vispol. The Vispol team was also announced as second runners-up for the Medium Risk Team of the Year award.

Lieutenant Colonel Sakhile Mthembu was the first runner-up for the Detective and Forensics Services Employee of the Year Award Level 8–12.

District Commissioner Major General Kheswa emphasised the importance of fostering a culture of excellence within the organisation, citing the critical role it plays in delivering exceptional service to the public. “Our officers and staff are the backbone of our organisation, and their dedication to duty is what sets us apart,” she said.

Sydenham SAPS walked away with the Best Station Award followed by Mariannhill SAPS as the runner-up.
