OCTOBER brings a host of activities for Durbanites and their visitors to take part in. Find a list of some ideas below.

Pink October

Radisson Blu Hotel in uMhlanga, together with The Estee Lauder Group of Companies, will host a Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon on October 5.

The cost is R695 per person with 5% of proceeds donated to The Pink Drive. The event includes a three-course lunch buffet paired with a welcome drink and features inspirational speakers: Nomazibulo Tshanga, Estee Lauder Brand Representative, Noeline Rajbally and emcee Lenore Goss Matjie. Market Mania

This month’s I heart Market takes place on Saturday, October 5, at Northlands Primary School in Durban North, providing retail therapy that is always fresh, exciting and surprising. The market brings together like-minded ‘makers’ and shoppers in a vibrant, safe and caring space as some of the country’s finest artisans gather monthly to showcase their extraordinary handcrafted goods.

Oktoberfest

Get ready to party at The Westville Warehouse, 48A Buckingham Terrace, at this year’s Oktoberfest. Doors open at 11:00 on Saturday, October 5, costing just R60 per person to enter. Hit the dancefloor from 13:00 with Tiaan Rivers, Goosfraba, Calamity Jam and Broken Advocate performing live.

Big laughs

The entertainingly funny Groet die Grotman 2, an Afrikaans satire comedy show, takes place at Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom on Sunday, October 6.

You have heard the saying, ‘Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus’, and this comedy plays on the differences between the genders. Tickets cost R250 per person and are available through LTickets. The show starts at 15:00 and ends at 17:00.

Book bonanza

The Crescent Book Fair has an assortment of books for sale on the first Saturday of every month at The Crescent Shopping Mall in uMhlanga from 09:00 to 16:00. Proceeds go to the SPCA. Book donations can be dropped off at the SPCA in Springfield. For large quantities, the SPCA can arrange to have them collected. To arrange collections, the public can call the fundraising office on 031 579 6534/5.

Rose Darrall reminds everyone of the monthly book fair on the first Saturday of every month. Proceeds go to the SPCA.

Bat talk

A ‘bat evening’ with Kate Richardson, a local expert from BATS KZN takes place on Sunday, October 6, from 18:00 to 20:00, at Palmiet Nature Reserve. Richardson will present an extremely informative and entertaining talk in the Boma, and then the guests will go outside to discuss the bats and use bat detectors to hear and identify the bats as they fly and hunt in the reserve. Children are encouraged to attend and always find it an enjoyable evening. Meet at the boma at 18:00.
