Woman killed after car battery thrown off bridge along the N3

The woman was making her way back to Pietermaritzburg after attending a funeral when the battery crashed through her windscreen onto her face.

WESTVILLE SAPS detectives are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a female driver was killed on Sunday evening when a car battery was thrown from the bridge just past the on-ramp onto the N3, passing Pavilion Shopping Mall.

According to reports, Madhumathie Bunwarie (62) was on her way back to Pietermaritzburg after attending a funeral in Phoenix.

“The car battery smashed the windscreen and landed on her face, killing her,” said Westville SAPS Communications Officer Captain Elizabeth Squires.

Anyone who can assist the police in finding the perpetrator/s can contact Crime Stop on 0860 10111.

Motorists have been advised to take caution when driving along the route.
