Project uplifts Waterfall community

Waterfall Projects is a non-profit organisation started with the sole objective of keeping the community of Waterfall clean and tidy and for upgrading certain neglected areas.

UPPER Highway resident Louise Groenewald won the potjiekos competition that was hosted by Waterfall Projects on June 15 at Cumec Park, Waterfall.

Waterfall Projects is a non-profit organisation formed almost three years ago by a handful of determined women with the sole objective of keeping the community of Waterfall clean and tidy and for upgrading certain neglected areas.

“Some of the projects, to date, include our public library, street clean-ups, Tiger Park in Waterfall 3, and our main focus, Cumec Park, which has been transformed from an alien-infested, overgrown, illegal dumping site, to a fenced, gated and solar-powered-lit park where cyclists of all ages can put their skills to the test with the many trails and jumps, and dog walkers can roam freely and safely,” said Marlene Ayling from Waterfall Projects.

She said the clearing of aliens is an ongoing project, and donations from the public are very much appreciated to enable this work to continue.

Ayling thanked Outdoor Warehouse who sponsored a gift voucher for the winner.

The day was also part of the Youth Day celebrations in Cumec Park. There was a treasure hunt for boys and girls aged 3–9 years, and it proved to be very popular.

“A mathematical scavenger hunt for the teens proved rather challenging. As the sun sank below the horizon, 25 pitched tents enjoyed the starry evening, and the sounds of happy children running around, enjoying themselves, [permeated the air],” said Ayling.
