Enjoy nature and more at Kloof Conservancy Indigenous Open Gardens

Make a day or weekend out of it with your friends and family, and enjoy nature as it should be enjoyed!

THE Kloof Conservancy Indigenous Open Gardens is taking place on the weekend of June 22 and 23. In addition to six stunning gardens and a large conservancy area, there are lots of other attractions for visitors:

Kloof Conservancy chairman Paolo Candotti said that nature lovers can expect expert plant advice, including from Dr Elsa Pooley, the doyen of indigenous gardening.

“There will be a Nature Facts Treasure Hunt to keep children entertained and a chance for them to win a prize. Entries are available at all entry points. There will also be a raffle with some exciting prizes for only R10 per entry, available at all entry points.”

Candotti mentioned that plant sales will be available at Broadmead and Garden 6.

“Environmental NGOs with information on how to attract birds and butterflies to your garden, as well as advice on frogs, snakes, vervet monkeys and more, will also be available. There will be guided walks into Springside Nature Reserve.

“What’s more, there will be Tanya Visser’s ‘pop-up’ garden shop, packed with all you need to make your gardening a pleasure – at Garden 6.

“The guests can also expect handmade garden crafts and ornaments at Broadmead. There will be food for sale at Broadmead and Gardens 5 and 6 and art for sale at Garden 2 and at Broadmead.”

The show will run from 09:00 to 16:00 each day, and the entry fee will be R35 per person, per garden for gardens 1, 2, 5 and 6. Entrance for Garden 3 and 4 and the conservancy area will cost R60.

The gardens on show:

Garden 1 belongs to Sue and Dave Mercer, 34B Margaret Crescent, Forest Hills.
Garden 2 is owned by Dawn and John Booth, 40 Margaret Crescent, Forest Hills.
Garden 3 can be viewed at 2 Broadmead Estate, 40 Haygarth Road, and belongs to Dom and Edgar Tennant.
Garden 4 is owned by Maxine and Andy Harris, 14 Broadmead, 40 Haygarth Road, Kloof.
Garden 5 is at 5 Park Avenue, Hillcrest, and belongs to Kerry and Colyn Townsend.
Garden 6 is a crowd favourite – Tanya Visser and Izolda van der Merwe, 6 Controversy Road, Assagay.
Nature lovers can also view the Broadmead Conservation area at Broadmead, 40 Haygarth Road, Kloof.
