A NUMBER of chain-store giants have come on board to offer voters free merchandise today (May 29), and all you have to do is vote and then proudly show off your inked thumb at any of the participating businesses.

In my African dream, there are boerie roll stalls stationed at every voting station and biltong kiosks. I mean, we don’t know how long those queues will be, and let’s face it, nothing quite screams proudly South African like the smell of braaivleis (grilled meat) lingering in the air!
Since that won’t be happening, here are five places where you can get a freebie or a discount:
- Wimpy coffee – flash that inked thumb, and a barista will give you a special thumbs-up.
- Spur coffee – because one cup is never enough!
- Krispy Kreme doughnut. Get an original glazed doughnut at the main stores and Checkers full-experience stores.
- FUTURELIFE will reward you with a free coffee or smoothie at Oceans Mall, uMhlanga, from May 29 – June 2.
- Discounts for Uber rides to a voting station. Use ‘VOTESA24’ as the promo code.
