Pinetown truck crash leaves one dead

Two other people were rushed to hospital after sustaining serious injuries. In a separate incident, a man was found seriously injured in Hillcrest after being shot in the head. He was transported to hospital.

A MAN believed to be in his 30s was killed after he lost control of the truck he was driving and collided into the rear end of another truck.

ALS Paramedics Garrith Jamieson said paramedics responded to a serious rear-end collision on Richmond Road before Gillitts Road in Pinetown, on Sunday evening, just after 19:30.

“Paramedics arrived on scene to find carnage as they found a truck with three occupants had somehow lost control and collided into the rear of another truck, leaving all three entrapped in the wreckage.

“The Netcare911 Rescue unit, together with the Durban Fire Department, had to use the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to cut the three free,” reported Jamieson.

The driver was declared dead at the scene.

According to Jamieson, the two passengers had sustained serious injuries and were stabilised on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to a nearby hospital.

In a separate incident, a man was left in a critical condition after being shot in the head in Hillcrest.

Jamieson said paramedics responded to a shooting incident in Brackenhill Road near a tavern just after 10:30 on Sunday morning.

“Paramedics arrived on scene to find chaos as multiple security services and SAPS were in attendance. Paramedics from Netcare911, EMRS and ALS Paramedics were shown to where a man was found in a critical condition.

“The man, believed to be in his fifties, had sustained a gunshot wound to his head and was in critical condition. Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the man on scene by placing him on a manual ventilator.”

The man was airlifted to hospital by a Netcare911 Aeromedical Helicopter.
