Awesomeness Day – how to feel awesome about yourself

Feeling awesome inside comes from stepping out of your comfort zone, living an authentic life and making others in your life feel awesome, too – these are some of the tips skater Vicky Kettle shares to celebrate International Day of Awesomeness.

A DURBAN roller skater, Vicky Kettle, believes that all people are awesome, but they need to take a moment to reflect on what they have accomplished to unlock the feeling of being awesome.

As the world commemorates the International Day of Awesomeness today (March 10), Vicky (39), who has created a safe space for the public to learn and grow in roller skating at Durban’s Hop Skip Skate, shares ways people can feel awesome.

Vicky says: “We are all awesome, and it’s actually just taking a moment to reflect back on what we have accomplished [that can] unlock the feeling. Things that make you feel awesome are to be true to who you are, learn from your mistakes, believe in yourself and be kind to yourself and others.”

She said this day reminds her that she is living a great authentic life. “Life can get busy, but it is vital to take a moment and just be grateful that you and the people in your community are doing great things. I like to take a moment to send a WhatsApp message to those who inspire me and tell them why I think they are awesome,” she says.

Vicky has a strong belief that she is awesome. She said: “I am awesome because I try my best to develop and empower myself every day. I work happily to be true to what I say and stay accountable. I dedicate myself to sharing joy and encouragement with those around me.”

The sportswoman urges the public to reach out to their loved ones and remind them that they are awesome. She says kind and encouraging words can mean the world to them.

Here are her three ways to feel awesome in summary:

  • Complete a goal out of your comfort zone that will help you grow.
  • Support someone going through a difficult time.
  • Help someone achieve something he or she thought was impossible.
