Nature warriors beautify Westville

The Keep Westville Beautiful team have taken it upon themselves to keep the suburb clean.

A GROUP of Westville residents have taken on the task of beautifying and cleaning their suburb.

Under the banner, Keep Westville Beautiful (KWB), this group relies on public donations to pay for their dedicated staff and buy the materials they use.

They have been quietly transforming their suburb into one their fellow residents can be proud of.

The starting point was to clear the accumulation of litter and start landscaping prominent areas within the suburb.

KWB spokesperson PJ Storm said, “Westville has always been a jewel with beautiful parks and gardens, excellent schools and a wonderful community. We realise that all municipalities face challenges and ours, perhaps, more so after the additional challenges caused by the floods.

“By working with them – and we realise they cannot provide us with funding – we can give Westville an edge that will attract new residents and businesses to our area, which is good for us all,” she said.

The first project taken on by the KWB Team was the Westville Post Office, which had become a homeless-persons’ drug den and yet another example of urban decay.

“The area was cleaned, and generous sponsors donated a roll-up door to keep the property secure at night. Cameras have also been installed at busy intersections, and these are also paying dividends in reducing crime in the area. And this at a time when crime is on the increase nationally. Again another edge for Westville.

“We encourage the residents of Westville to play their part in keeping Westville beautiful by keeping the outside areas of their homes and businesses clean and safe. Oh, and if you see our teams out and about, give them a hoot – they’d love that!”

Keep Westville Beautiful is run by four Westville ladies and their teams.

“We call them the Westville Warriors,” said Storm.
