Bok fans share memorabilia-signing mishaps following Trophy Tour

Some local fans expressed their disappointment at their memorabilia not being returned or signed but were reminded by other fans how busy and tired the Boks were.

IT’S been a case of mixed emotions following the Durban leg of the Springboks Trophy Tour which took place on Saturday as thousands gathered – some just to cheer the champions on and others to hopefully get their memorabilia signed.

As the Boks passed through the streets of Durban, fans threw balls and shirts at them, hoping they would get these signed and thrown back – unfortunately, this was not possible for everyone, leaving fans disappointed.

Some took to Facebook to express their disappointment while others said that the Boks were tired and fans were expecting too much.

One fan who threw his shirt at the Boks for signing ended up sprinting about 1 km to get it back.

Thevasan Thaver said: “The boks are a disappointment when it comes to showing love to their fans I personally threw my shirt to get signed they did not sign it I had to run almost 1km showing hand signals for my shirt they took a small shirt n threw it at me😠😠😠” [sic]

Leona Rampersad responded to Thaver, laughing, saying it may have been her daughter’s shirt as her shirt was not returned.

Some locals were also disappointed that key players were not present for the parade in Durban.

Shona Williams said: “Just watching on TV you can see so many things being thrown at the bus, how are they supposed to remember who threw what item, especially when they are exhausted. Throwing your stuff, in such a large crowd, is at your own risk.” [sic]

Nerina Aniruth said: “They shouldn’t be doing such strenuous tours all in one go, like space it out so people can get their signed stuff like tshirts and balls etc. They are tired because they are doing too much if [of] the trophy tour in one go. Right after the world cup too.” [sic]
