Local majorette club members shine at provincial awards

Members of the Eagles Majorette Club were awarded in the Provincial Awards ceremony for the first time.

THE Eagles Majorette Club of Waterfall is proud of their athletes who were awarded at The Federation of Dance Drill Cheerleading and Majorette Sport South Africa (FDDCMSA) Provincial Awards.

Held recently at Yellowwood Park, this was the first time that KZN was eligible to attend trails. Eagles Majorette Club head coach Elmarie Samuel said this was a huge milestone for them as 8 out of 11 of their athletes were awarded.

“Every year, athletes who have completed at least one season are allowed to attend the Provincial Award trials, where the top athletes in every province receive their Provincial Awards. This consisted of a fitness test, learning and performing an unprepared pom-pom display and doing a prepared mace-and-flag display.

“These girls and ladies now have the opportunity of trying out for their National Awards on November 4, and we wish them the best of luck with their preparation and performance on the day,” she said.
Samuel further announced that their club recently moved to Benjamin Pine Primary School and that their Junior Team has grown to around 40 girls.

“We are hopeful that boys will soon start joining the sport, which is now open to them, as well. Our Senior and Tertiary teams are working hard to prepare for our competition season, which starts in February 2024. All three teams will be travelling to Johannesburg for Nationals in June 2024, where we will fly the KZN flag high,” she said.

Registrations are still open for the beginning of the season for our Junior (Grade RR – Grade 7), Senior (grades 8–12) and Tertiary teams (ages 18–60). For more information, please contact Elmarie Samuel on 071 642 0792 or email eagles.majorette.club@gmail.com.
