Kloof High School hosts 2023 SANCF Rock Climbing Nationals

Climbing champions gathered at the South African National Climbing Federation hosted recently at Kloof High School.

IN celebration of climbing talent, KwaZulu-Natal Climbing, in partnership with the South African National Climbing Federation (SANCF), hosted the highly anticipated 2023 SANCF Nationals at the picturesque and well-suited Kloof High School.

This four-day competition ran from September 29 to October 2 and brought together climbers from across South Africa and served as the Pre-Selection Event for the IFSC African Qualifier in the disciplines of boulder, lead, speed and combined (lead and boulder).

Reporting on the event, Kloof High School marketing manager Kelly Daniels said Kloof High School was the perfect host for the competition.
“Nestled in the heart of Kloof, Kloof High School provided an idyllic setting for this prestigious climbing event. With its lush, green surroundings and a stunning backdrop of the Kloof Gorge, the school’s well-maintained facilities and accommodating staff made it an ideal location for the competition.

“The state-of-the-art climbing facilities at Kloof High School ensured that the athletes had access to top-notch equipment and a challenging climbing environment. The school’s commitment to promoting sports and adventure was evident throughout the event,” she said.

Daniels said participants from across the nation, representing provinces such as Gauteng, the Western Cape, the Eastern Cape and the host province, Kwa-Zulu Natal, converged at Kloof High School with passion and determination.

“Athletes displayed, not only their climbing skills, but also their commitment to the sport. The event was more than just a competition; it was a gathering of like-minded individuals who share a deep love for climbing. The atmosphere at Kloof High School was electric, with friends, family and fellow climbers cheering on their favourite athletes as they scaled the walls and pushed their limits.”

Daniels further thanked the participants and role-players.
“The success of the 2023 SANCF Nationals was made possible through the tireless efforts of dedicated SANCF and IFSC officials. Their unwavering commitment to the sport ensured the smooth operation of the event.”
