Inchanga road is a death trap, says resident

Following months of reporting a collapsing road in Inchanga, a resident said he was concerned that a tragic accident will occur if that road is not repaired.

AN Upper Highway resident said he is at his wit’s end after reporting the collapsing R103 road just above Inchanga Railway Station without any response from the department. Graham Rice said the road, which he brought to the Department of Transport’s attention eight months ago, has still not been fixed.

“This is an extremely busy road with large trucks up and down all day. Motorists are moving to the middle of the road to avoid this, and soon, there will be a major accident as the road is too narrow for all these heavy trucks.

“I am afraid someone is going to be killed if the repairs are not done very soon. It is now August, and I reported this in January,” said the concerned resident.

He said it’s starting to break up farther in toward the middle of the road. “I am afraid a car or truck will hit it in the right spot and the road will collapse under them. This little road is now being used by hundreds of trucks weekly.”

According to Rice, the only thing that has been done was the installation of a chevron recently, along with three big, yellow, plastic bollards.

“All of those were flattened in days. This is a death trap, so any help from the authorities would be appreciated. I have sent an email, which I have kept should anything happen as no one seems to care,” he said.

The Highway Mail tried to get a response from the Department of Transport, but nothing was received by the time of going to print.
