A sweet gesture for Stockville Valley community

The community was treated with sandwiches, clothes, toys, blankets and school items.

The Clifton Park Community Forum (CPCF) together with Hillcrest SAPS, members of the CPFC Youth Desk, Blue Security, Happy Valley Pre-Primary school staff and Sarepta Church staff visited the Sweet Pea Sports Park down in Stockville Valley, Gillitts.

The team travelled down to the field to help the community do a litter clean-up of the field and to hand out donations collected.

Seventy sandwiches, apples, two hundred cans of food, sweets, one hundred pairs of socks, twenty-two soccer balls, food parcels, school equipment and blankets were handed out to the community by the volunteer teams .

A member of the Stockville residents commented to one of the volunteers that they were initially frightened to see SAPS police and security vehicles entering the park and could not believe how kind those members were to them.

The resident said they had always thought the authorities only visited with issues related to crime. The CPCF members present also introduced themselves and explained their role in the community and how they form the bridge between SAPS and the residents and would like to assist for closer and more frequent interaction between the parties.

Pastor Zolani Phakathi of Sarepta church said Sweet Pea Park was a rejuvenated project of the church in which they hope to educate young boys through playing soccer and teach them team skills, life skills and uplift the area.

“This was a much better option than them getting involved in other wayward activities, drugs, or crime. Many of the youth in the area do not attend school.

“The church is hoping to formalise a soccer team and are currently looking for a sponsor for soccer jerseys and gear,” said Phakathi

If anyone can assist the church contact Pastor Zolani on 071 897 9541.

Clifton Park Community Forum public relations officer, Allan Dyer conveyed a special thanks to the main sponsors: Brigit Filmer Spa, Socks for Africa, Happy Valley Pre-Primary, Le Verdure Real Food Café and United Container Depots.

He reminded the public that the newly formed Clifton Park Community Forum is an official sub forum of the main Hillcrest SAPS Community Policing Forum and can be contacted via Whatsapp on 079 313 9104.

“That way you can request to be added to their group to stay in touch with your neighbours and area. Alternatively you can email them on cliftonparkcf@gmail.com and be linked up. The CPCF is active in the Clifton Park and Woodlands suburbs of Gillitts,” said Dyer.
