Pinetown CPF committee is hands-on

The Pinetown CPF has seven sub-forums under its umbrella and their goal is to bridge that gap between the police and the community.

THE newly elected Pinetown CPF Committee’s ultimate goal is to take a firmer approach towards crime while raising awareness that the community policing forum exists and people should work hand-in-hand with them.

With seven sub-forums under its umbrella, the committee said they should be aware of the CPF structures in the area and how they can get involved.

The sub-forums are: New Germany, Wyebank, Kloof, Motala Heights, Southern Suburbs, Pinetown Central and Nazareth.

Asked about the crime in the areas, CPF chairman Justin Bosse said the crime is always an issue and always needs to be monitored.

He said the main crimes in the Pinetown area include house robberies, vehicle theft, hijackings, muggings and cable theft.

Shedding more light on the CPF structure, Bosse said they bridge that gap between the police and the community.

“We are the extra set of eyes and ears. Our aim is to adapt a stronger approach on crime and ensure that everyone is doing their job to get the criminals off the streets.

To achieve that, Bosse said they need the community to come on board as well as business owners in the area.

“The police alone cannot fight crime. People’s mindsets need to change, and they need to come forward and report cases of crime. It is frustrating to catch a suspect with stolen goods and the person is released as no one has opened a case. Working together with neighbourhood watches and security companies, thieves are caught on a regular basis, but there are hardly any convictions,” said Bosse.

CPF deputy chairperson Lynn Robson pleaded with residents to attend meetings so they can unite and everyone can fight for one cause.

“As residents, we have to share and address issues that affect our community. We can make a change if we are united,” she said.

Under the Pinetown CPF, there is also a Youth Desk which is comprised of learners from various schools in the area.

“Our young people are the future of the country – they must also have a say,” added Robson.
