Pinetown organisation celebrates serving 200 000 meals

As Food for Life reaches for more after celebrating their milestone, more hungry stomachs will be filled.

THE Food for Life Western Region Pinetown Branch celebrated the serving of their 200 000th plate of wholesome, nutritional meals to the community.

Food for Life South Africa is a registered organisation, operating from the kitchen built at the home of Raj Rajpaul, the chairperson of the Pinetown Branch. The organisation serves several community organisations in the Western Region, who fetch the hot, fresh vegetarian meals and distribute them to old age homes, orphanages, informal settlements and the elderly who are living alone.

Extending their gratitude, one of the recipients – the Siyasutha organisation in Ntuzuma – said the weekly meals by Food for Life are instrumental to their mission. “We truly appreciate your interest in helping our organisation thrive. You can rest assured that your generous donation is being put to good use,” they said.

Raj and his wife, Gundica Devi’s Dasi, said the past 200 000 meals have been fulfilling to distribute.

“We saw a need in Motala Farm and began serving hot meals by cooking one huge pot which serves 500.

“Thanks to the generosity of our donors, team of helpers and distribution volunteers, and the blessings of God, we have managed to expand to 3 000 meals every Saturday. Now we are serving areas in Bonela, Chatsworth, Pinetown, Mariannhill and surrounding areas. It is a fulfilling service, and we see the need increasing, hence we pray to double our efforts.”

The event was a festive one in which a great spirit of camaraderie was visible among all the attendees.
