ALS paramedics spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson reported that it is believed that there was an earlier collision.

“A vehicle had overturned and while recovering, a bakkie ploughed into that scene, and a taxi then ploughed into the bakkie,” he said.

Jamieson said multiple patients were left injured with one patient from the taxi entrapped in the wreckage.

“Rescue workers used the jaw of life to cut the man free. He was stabilised before being sent to hospital. Eight patients were accounted for on scene, they were treated and sent to various hospitals in Durban for the further care they needed,” he said.

He reported that SAPS and Metro police were on scene for further investigations.

Furthermore, reports have revealed that the M19 near Pinetown is flooded with pools of water and Stapleton Road under the M19 has flooded and is closed.
