Brotherhood bands together for community

Marrianhill Brotherhood seeks to do more for the community.

INITIALLY coming together to share their grief, a group of men in Mariannhill are making plans to extend their help to the community. Mariannhill Brotherhood started as a way to reach out to each other by lending help whenever anyone in the group was in need.

Speaking to the Highway Mail, the chairman of the group, Skhumbuzo Kubheka, said the group has grown and they are looking forward to doing more for the community.

“The group started last year when we had to help contribute to a funeral for one of our members – we would do this from time to time whenever one of us had to bury their family member. We were so pleased with the contributions and thought we could do more instead of just this specific assistance.
“Recently, we decided to contribute again to help the community, and we managed to donate groceries to 16 families in the area.”

Kubheka said they have been inspired to do more ever since and would like to open up their group to anyone whom they share the same interest with.
“A lot is happening in our community, and it is important that we take a stand and help however we can. We are not limited to supporting the community through donations, but also through relief programmes for families in the area and by helping to fight crime in the area,” he said.

Kubheka said their group is not limited to only men but any family that is fond of their idea. “With time, we are planning to devise some sort of commitment to the group because it is important for us to stay fully committed to the group so we can witness the growth of our vision,” he said.

The Mariannhill Brotherhood invited the community to their group and urged them to be on the lookout for more of their outreaches, which are in the pipeline. Kubheka can be contacted on 083 244 3808 for more information about the group.
