Highway dancer takes on the world

Highway dancer is happy to live his life doing what he enjoys the most.

WORLD-RENOWNED dancer Kevin Ellis is ready to offer more of his talent to not only the Highway community but also the world. Recently crowned the 2023 Quadruple European Champion in Dublin, he won first place in the Country and Western Partners, with dance partner Lesley Klewinghaus, for the second time, as they were crowned for the same category last year. This is among many other titles the dancer has bagged. He has also won Senior Duos with dance partner Sandy Clausen, with whom he has a 20-year dance relationship.

Ellis was also placed first in his solos which consisted of a Nightclub Cha-Cha and West Coast Swing dance. He was graded and received Gold with Honours, which he considers a huge achievement. He also won the Charity Dance-off with over 100 contestants taking part from all over the world.

“Dance has always been my passion, and it warms my heart to do what I love and know that I will still get to do it in the future. I will be turning 60 soon,” he said.

The dancer is grateful to the people in his life who have contributed to what he is today, which include his dance school, Dance Magic, which is based in the Highway area.

“Thank you to Courteney Wentzel for all her help in not only my solos but getting my fitness in order, and for being a second eye and helping on my duos. To Lesley and Jerome of Just Dance for the training and dedication to getting me ready for the Country and Western Partners section and helping me bring the cup home. A huge shout-out to WDM for the platform for this event and for keeping dance alive,” he said.

Ellis said he is grateful for what he does and is set to host more dances at the Kloof and Highway SPCA.
“I have the best job in the world at the Kloof and Highway SPCA, and hosting packed-out functions on their stage is fantastic and for such a great cause. Not one day is the same at the Kloof and Highway SPCA.”
