Join Eid Prayer in Westville

The Eid Congregational Prayer will be held at the Jimmy Bellows Grounds.

MUSLIMS around the world are currently observing the Islamic month of fasting, Ramadan, which comes to an end on Saturday, April 21, or Sunday, April 22, depending on the New Moon sighting.

As with the previous year, members of the Westville community have arranged for the prescribed (Open Air) Eid Congregational Prayer at the Jimmy Bellows Grounds at 5 Link Road.

The gathering will start at 05:30 with the Fajr (Dawn) Prayer, and the Eid Prayer will be at 06:35. It will be complete by 07:15.

Vehicles will be accommodated at the Westville Country Club, Jimmy Bellows and the Westville Swimming Pool. “We encourage residents who can to carpool or walk to the venue,” said Mohamed Kharwa.

With over 100 years of Muslims in Westville, the Eid Prayer will also be held at the over-100-year-old Habibia Soofie Astana Mosque on Jan Hofmeyer Road at 06:30.

Kharwa said this mosque was established in Westville around 1904, to serve the community of Muslim farmers who lived in the area.

“The mosque was a key waypoint for all inland-Durban travellers and for the watering of their horses, and it offered support to the less fortunate.”

He pleaded with Westville residents for understanding and patience due to any additional traffic/noise on the day.
