Pinetown’s baby home continues to give hope

The new nursery at the Baby Hope House will be an additional space to accommodate abandoned babies.

THE Baby Hope House unveiled its new nursery on Saturday, April 15. The new colourful nursery, which has a special baby basin and a walk-in closet, will be an additional space to accommodate abandoned babies.

The house is a home for vulnerable abandoned babies (from newborns to toddlers) who otherwise would have to go to large government-owned institutions.

The haven for little ones currently has seven babies. It was co-founded by Sonia Swinton and the late Lynne Pieterse in 2007.

Swinton said they care, love and nurture the little ones until they can be placed with adoptive families.

The babies are placed here by social workers, and most of them are found in some of the most horrible circumstances.

“We give them love, warmth and a safe environment. We create a home that they should have had – the best start in life in a family home,” she said.

Landi Viljoen, administrator of Baby Hope House, also pleaded for the public to support their Adopt A Cot, a charity drive for the Baby Hope House, which is aimed at getting additional funding to cover costs needed to run the household.

“We are looking for sponsorship from individuals as well as companies to adopt a cot. The sponsor will be allowed access to visits whereupon we will inform them on the child’s progress and, of course, the mischiefs that they get up to when they are a bit grown,” Viljoen said with a smile.

She added that the home is always in need of volunteers to help look after the little ones.

“We also appeal for donations of nappies, formula milk (Infacare, Nan and Isomil), fresh vegetables and fruits.”

Viljoen thanked everyone who donated building materials, labour, services and finances to make this dream a reality.
