Keep the flu away with this brew

The Durban Catholic Players’ Guild share their recipe to keep the flu away this autumn.

IT is now officially autumn, and the change in season also often means an increase in colds and flu.

More than 100 Durbanites are doing their very best to keep the flu bugs at bay and are rehearsing for the Passion Play beginning this week.

What has become a Passion Play tradition is the serving of a potent ‘Flu Brew’ to keep everyone healthy.

The Durban Catholic Players’ Guild presents the 15th Durban Passion Play, fondly known as the Oberammergau of Africa, performed by a large cast of 130 people who volunteer their time and skills as part of their Lenten preparations.

It is an epic-scale dramatic production depicting Jesus’ Passion, covering the final period of his life from his visit to Jerusalem to his execution by crucifixion, and ending with the resurrection.

They’ve shared their brew recipe below:

  • 3 litres boiling water
  • 8 lemons, squeezed
  • 3 roots of ginger, peeled and sliced
  • 3 sticks cinnamon
  • 6 cloves
  • 100ml honey

How to:

Bring all ingredients to a boil. Simmer for 20 minutes and strain.
Drink hot or cold.
