Help foundation keep Upper Highway clean

Robin Hood Foundation has appealed to business owners and residents to donate money towards the clean-up upkeep of Old Main Road, Inanda Road and some of the bridges in the Hillcrest area.

A SUCCESSFUL and well-supported clean-up, which was hosted by the Robin Hood Foundation (RHF) on Saturday, March 6, has motivated the foundation to start an ongoing project.

On the day, more than 250 members of the community came out to make a positive impact on Old Main Road.

RHF founder Cindy Norcott said the streets, verges and vegetation are being neglected, giving the area a rundown appearance.

“Waiting for our municipalities is no longer a solution, and while we are becoming frustrated and complaining, the weeds are growing around us.”

Norcott said they need sponsorship to keep Old Main Road, Inanda Road and some of the bridges clean.

“There are people who have pledged towards this initiative for which we are grateful. We still need more support in order to ensure this project can start from April 1 and be sustainable for at least one full year.

According to Norcott, the plan being put into action is to employ three experienced, reliable and hard-working gardeners – under the supervision of a Black-owned garden service – who will work on a set route over a four-week period where, once finished, will repeat their route.

“They will be focusing on the main roads, the on-ramps, bridges and off-ramps and will work a full five-day week,” she said.
