Real-life adventure makes the pages

Her love for cosplay and comics led her to writing her first comic book.

A COSPLAY and Marvel fan from Queensburgh, Lauren Bianca, has written her first comic book – the first of many, she says. The book is entitled The Shadower, and the 26-year-old said her biggest dream was to be a part of the Marvel Cast. The comic is not your average comic book as it contains no drawn illustrations but rather pictures of people who hold a special place in Bianca’s life, including her friends and parents.

Bianca has a Degree in Counselling Psychology, and she said her love for comics grew over the last year. When the idea came about to publish her own comic book, her family and friends were very supportive.

“Last year, my interest in cosplay and comics grew, so I decided to write my own comic book,” said Bianca. “When I told my friends that I was writing a comic book, they joked around and asked if I would use them as characters. Well, it became a reality. Each of my five friends were given a brief on what I required, and they delivered,” said Bianca.

She said the storyline is drawn from everyday life events and bits and pieces about her life. Without giving away too much, she spoke about the plot.

“The story is about a girl who mistakenly drinks the wrong medication, which gives her superhuman powers. Later, she finds out there is more to her role than just helping the humans in her local environment. She and the team are faced with a threat that can destroy many. With unity and determination, the team work together and fight the attack of the dark force,” said Bianca.

Her character in the book, Chasi Evans, is similar to Black Widow as her character is selfless. Her favourite cosplay character is Wanda, who’s all about family. “I can relate to Black Widow on so many levels, and Chasi is similar. She is very sacrificial and always looks on the bright side of life. I also relate to Wanda because family is very important to her,” she said.

Her friends play Lexi, Atomic Inferno, Amex Miles and Edward Amos. “There are a few references from Marvel. The people who understand Marvel will get it,” she said. She said people love comic books as they offer an escape from the everyday stresses of life. To purchase The Shadower, visit: https://63f768a2e473b.site123.me/
