People are forever interested in new trends, and the Icebolethu Group has shared five top funeral trends.
FUNERALS are expensive events, but the culture has evolved, so some trends have become the new normal for funerals. For some people, funerals used to be events where fashion, style and expensive cars were showcased.
We asked Icebolethu Group about the new funeral trends, and the reason behind them, and this is what they shared:

1. Casket Carriage is a new trend in the market where the casket is visible and is pulled by the fleet. We have done a couple of these funerals when families make requests – this trend was more popular in Gauteng, but it is getting traction in KZN, as well. It is mostly done for prominent people.
2. White doves are becoming a norm at funerals now, which resemble letting go of the deceased spirit as they fly away. Icebolethu has been offering this service to clients for years now, however, it recently trended as people have been seeing it on high-profile funerals like that of the Kwaito Star, Mampintsha. The service is available to clients on request, for now – as the demand grows, they will consider having it on premiums.
3. Having Gold Shovels at graveyards for the family to pour during the service and the lowering of the casket.
4. An executive fleet of cars led by bikes is becoming more and more popular. Over recent years, executive fleets have become very popular, and some families have special requests on which type of fleet they would like to use. Their packages come standard with different levels of cars on different packages, and families are able to make changes and add special requests during the planning of funerals.
5. Cremations are on the rise, as well, since we know that Durban cemeteries are fast filling up. More families are opening up to cremations rather than the normal burial processes. Icebolethu will be launching its new crematoriums in the near future, and they are deliberating on providing other forms of burial as requested by families, eg, aquamations.
