Upper Highway working women share love among themselves

Supporting each other and sharing love in these trying times is the order of the day for the Tea Gardens women's group.

WORKING a day job and raising children is not the easiest of tasks, according to the Tea Gardens events founder Maureen Makhanya. The organisation is made up of a group of women from all walks of life who meet regularly to share their burdens and joys of motherhood. The ladies said they started in 2020 as a once-off thing, and it grew as it served a greater purpose.

“Women go through a lot – some are single mothers and sole breadwinners in their families. It is not an easy responsibility, and sometimes, we need some weight lifted off of our shoulders. These meetings serve this purpose. We have women from all over the Highway area – some single mothers, some married and working in all different kinds of professions.

In our meetings, we invite guest speakers who specialise in different fields. We get life, parenting and financial coaching advice and more.

The ladies met recently at the Hillcrest Library as a way of showing support and love for each other.
