Kloof Conservancy Indigenous Open Gardens – what’s on show (Part 1)

Take a sneak peek at the gardens that will be on show at this year's Kloof Conservancy Indigenous Open Gardens.

THE planning for the Kloof Conservancy Indigenous Open Gardens is well underway, and the organisation has secured some outstanding gardens for the show, which is set to take place on the weekend of March 25/26.

It will feature some new gardens as well as a crowd favourite – Tanya Visser’s garden in Assagay.

The show will run from 09:00 to 16:00 each day, and the entry fee will be R30 per person per garden for three gardens and a single-entry fee of R75 to enter the Stoneford Estate and view the other three gardens.

Each week, the Highway Mail will feature two of the gardens that will be on show. Today, we take a sneak preview at two gardens.

Garden Number 1 is owned by Nathalie Massa and Malan Roux. Garden Number 2 is at Carolyn and George Victor’s home.

Garden Number 1 is at 9 Jacaranda Hill, Meadow Lane, Kloof. It was recently in the Rotary Anns Open Gardens and attracted much attention. “So we are pleased to include it in our show as a summer garden which should highlight its true potential.

“Heavily influenced by landscaper Jenny Dean, this garden defies the sceptics and provides a splash of amazing colours and a wide variety of plants,” said Kloof Conservancy chairman Paolo Candotti.

Garden Number 2 is at the home of Carolyn and George Victor, 3 Northern Avenue, Hillcrest.

Candotti said they are pleased to include this garden as a first-time show participant, and it is bound to draw attraction for its very practical indigenous planting as well as for its innovative use of materials, recycling and wise water use.

“We are also pleased that this garden is a cooperative effort with Hillcrest Conservancy, and proceeds from this garden will be donated to Hillcrest Conservancy for use in their environmental projects,” said Candotti.
