Get your groove on for the bear

It's a constant battle for Operation Bobbi Bear to keep their doors open.

FITNESS fans are invited to don their lycra and join Madelaine (Madz) van Zyl and her Tae Bo team to raise funds for Operation Bobbi Bear while working up a sweat. The Tae Bo session takes place on Saturday, March 4, from 08:00 at the Queensburgh Sports Association, 60 Bowker Road in Escombe. Included is a fleamarket, and food will be on sale at The Kitchen.

Bobbi Bear (BB) is a human rights organisation based in Amanzimtoti that is committed to helping sexually abused children. It is a constant battle financially to keep its doors open to continue its good work.

“We participated in a fundraiser last year in conjunction with Zumba, AHHH and the Jess Ford Foundation, where I met Carika Zietsman of BB. The fundraiser was for ‘rape kits’ –drawstring bags that BB uses when they fetch the children. I offered to help them out this year. With the rising costs of food and basic necessities that we take for granted, it will assist them tremendously,” said Madz.

The wishlist includes coffee, tinned food, long-life milk, peanut butter, two-minute noodles, tomato sauce, readymade mince meals, custard, juice, sugar, syrup, domestos, shampoo, conditioner, toilet paper, dishwashing liquid and cleaning detergents.

“Participants must please bring goodies to the value of R50 or more if they can afford it. The community is welcome to drop their donations off and have breakfast at the club. We also have vendors selling some goodies such as jewellery and rusks. “We hope to gather so many goods that they cannot fit into one bakkie,” said Madz with a laugh.

“With the weather being so unpredictable this time of year, it was decided to hold the event in the hall that can comfortably fit 40 participants. Anyone is welcome, and we would like to challenge some men to join us to see if they can keep up.”

You will get a proper workout with two hours of Tae Bo, Tae Bo funk and a bit of boxing. The public can also deposit directly into BB’s account. Banking details: Bobbi Bear Fund, FNB Amanzimtoti, Cheque account, Account number: 62018619471, Branch code: 220127.
