WATCH: Stapleton Road is on the verge of collapsing once again

Motorists have been advised to be on high alert.

MARSHALL Security’s Andreas Mathios has advised motorists to be alert or stay away from Stapleton Road which is on the verge of collapsing.

The road, which is one of the most frequently used roads in the Pinetown area, has been problematic for many years as it was once damaged by heavy rains which led to its closure for a couple of months, causing havoc and inconvenience for motorists.

According to Mathios, a part of the road collapsed before Christmas.

It was reported that there was a huge hole opposite the entrance to the cement brick factory. With the rain pouring non-stop, the Pinetown resident said he was worried that the road will become more dangerous. He said that motorists should report such matters to the authorities.

“The municipality was informed of this incident,” he said.

A few days ago, eThekwini Municipality wrote on its Facebook page that “A section of Stapleton Road has collapsed. Please be cautious. An engineering team is on-site to establish measures to remedy the situation.”

Mathios urged people to contact the Fire Department and Metro Police number (031 361 0000) for such incidents, or even accidents, instead of calling 10111.
