Westville dog attacked by 2 pit bulls

A dog is recovering after being attacked by 2 pit bulls in its own yard.

WHAT was meant to be a jolly day turned sour for a dog owner whose dog was attacked by two pit bulls on Christmas Day. Brandon Strachan known as Bud, the dog owner, said he was enjoying Christmas lunch with his family when he received a phone call from his landlord alerting him of the incident.

“I immediately drove back in a rush to Westville. Upon our arrival, we noticed rocks thrown across our garden and broken sticks. We found our dog unresponsive, hurtled under my partner’s car. I had to pull her out and rush her to the vet,” he said.

Strachan said the pit bulls that attacked their dog came out from up their street when a car came out of their property. “Our gates are a few metres apart, and our dog was locked up securely, and they proceeded to attack her. The incident was not their first attack,” he said.

“We were given two options – to either put down a deposit of R15 000 for her surgery to start or to consider for her to be euthanised. We, fortunately, had someone from the community approach us and graciously offer to pay the deposit for us,” he said.

Explaining the injuries to their dog, Bud said she had sustained severe injuries to her face and ear, and her stomach had been ripped up pretty badly.
“We are grateful to the community members who came to her aid after hearing our dog’s cry. I am certain that without them there, our dog would have been ripped to pieces. The bravery of these people saved our dog’s life,” he said.
Strachan said they are waiting for affidavits from the people who were witnesses, so they can open a case.
