Fireworks season takes a toll on the SPCA

The Kloof and Highway urges pet owners to visit their nearest animal shelters as soon as possible if their pets are missing.

THE Kloof and Highway SPCA took in 25 dogs, seven cats and one rabbit on January 1 and 2.

According to SPCA’s Brigitte Ferguson, only one of the 33 animals were microchipped.

“Four dogs and one cat have been claimed by their owners. This does not include animal emergencies our inspectorate team has had to attend to during this time as well as the 122 animals already in our care.”

Ferguson said they have reached maximum capacity and do not know what tomorrow holds for them.

“However, we would like to thank the public for their support and patience during this time, as well as the kind words of every person that thanked us for returning their pets safely to them,” she said.

The Kloof and Highway SPCA are appealing to anyo

ne with a missing pet to come in and physically check their kennels as well as complete a detailed lost report with their reception. They could also contact them on 031 764 1212 on Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 15:00 and Saturdays from 08:00 to 12:00.
