Fabulous Reads: Go wild with kiddies’ safari guide

Book review - The World of African Wildlife: A safari guide for young explorers.

The World of African Wildlife: A safari guide for young explorers, Owen Hendry, Penguin Random House, 9781775848059

WHEN I was little, my father bought us an encyclopedia set. It was one of the most precious gifts I had ever received. I devoured the volumes, which ranged from history to the great outer space.

However, it was the book on animals that I loved the most. I spent hours learning about herbivores, predators, symbiosis, evolution, biodiversity and the likes.

Owen Hendry’s safari guide might not be as big as an encyclopedic book, but it is chock full of interesting facts about Africa’s diverse and beautiful fauna – and even some flora.

It is the perfect little book to get your littlies interested and educated about Africa’s wildlife – from the famous Big Five to the little birds.

My favourite part is the layout of the book. Instead of bulky paragraphs of text, the book is jam-packed with little snippets of facts. There are also some fun activities scattered about the pages.

Not only is this book a source of hours of fun, I am sure it will inspire a number of our future wildlife rangers. Mariclair Smit – 5/5 stars
