Upper Highway’s children’s village celebrates a milestone

Based in the Shongweni Valley, Ingane Yami Children’s Village started ‘rewriting the stories’ of orphaned and abandoned children in KZN 10 years ago.

INGANE Yami Children’s Village, a permanent, loving home for orphaned and vulnerable children based in the Shongweni Valley, hosted a celebration on Friday to commemorate 10 years since it opened its doors.

The village consists of individual homes, each belonging to a carefully selected foster mother and six children. The families are supported holistically with amazing on-site facilities that ensure the emotional, educational, physical and spiritual needs of each child are met.

The event was hosted at Open Skies Church in Kloof and was attended by more than 200 people who had a connection with Ingane Yami, from corporate sponsors to individuals who have given to the ministry.

The children got on stage and performed dances, dramas and even a combined Marimba item with the Grade Eights from St Marys DSG.

A crowd favourite was a gangster version of Wheels on the Bus, which the youngest children of the village performed!

Patricia Deacon, Ingane Yami’s marketer, thanked SuperSPAR Richdens for sponsoring the food for the evening.

There was also a mini Christmas market with various craft items.

“It was such a joy for Ingane Yami to celebrate such a milestone. Everyone is looking forward to what the next 10 years has in store,” she said.
