Fabulous Reads: Children’s book will melt your heart

Book review - The Boy and the Moonimal by Debi Gliori.

The Boy and the Moonimal, Debi Gliori, Jonathan Ball Publishers, ISBN: 9781408892909

THE Boy and the Moonimal is the first children’s book I have ever reviewed, and what a wonderfully adorable story to get me started.

While short, this poignant and heart-warming little tale of hope, friendship and love managed to evoke so many emotions.

Moonimal (which could be either an imaginary friend or toy) and a young boy are inseparable, until one day.

An accident separates the duo, and Moonimal goes on an adventure trying to find his best friend.

Despite some help from a few forest creatures, years zoom past as Moonimal continues his search. He fears he may never find his treasured friend.

I am not ashamed to say that even as an adult, the sweet ending choked me up.

The endearing message is complimented by beautiful illustrations. It is a delightful story that is a must for any little one’s bookshelf.

I truly hope Debi Gliori takes Moonimal on additional adventures, which I can share with my niece. – Mariclair Smit 5/5 stars
