Pinetown police warn the public about crime in the area

The Pinetown police are urging people to be on the lookout for any criminal activities and to be vigilant, especially on or near the M13 pedestrian bridge that crosses from Pinetown CBD to Ashley.

PINETOWN police have alerted the public to be vigilant when using the M13 pedestrian bridge that crosses from Pinetown CBD to Ashley. The station reported that cases of theft out of motor vehicles are on the increase, where laptops are stolen from vehicles, and valuables are stolen from pedestrians who cross the bridge.

Pinetown Police station communications officer Bongumusa Manqele said, “A spate of robbery cases have been reported from that area where victims are robbed of their belongings by suspects who come from the bushes near the bridge. Victims are threatened with knives, and items such as cash and cellphones are taken, and even motorists who park on the M13 near the bridge are also victims.”

Manqele said it is advised for the community to walk in groups when using the bridge. The community is also urged not to report false cases to the police.
