Highway Christian Community presents the Crimson play

Highway Christian Community is presenting a play called Crimson, which portrays the story of love and redemption shown throughout the Bible and its main characters.

THE Highway Christian Community is pleased to present a multimedia, community, home-brew musical drama involving a range of arts.

The Crimson play is part of HCC’s annual Christmas carol events, and the play is a dramatisation of Bible stories. Giving more insight into the play, producer Heather Ahlschlager said, “This crimson thread is of the genealogy of Jesus, His covenant of grace and His pursuit of His bride through the ages and pages of the Bible, with broad brushstrokes of the main characters. Always present, the Trinity weaves in and out of time and cultures – breaking boxes, shifting paradigms, unveiling not only the ultimate sacrifice of love on the cross, but the power of the resurrection, and the move of the Spirit through the Church up through the ages until our wedding in Revelations.”

Ahlschlager said the message in the play is the love story of the Trinity’s intentions, showcasing the life and times of several main Biblical figures. “It reveals a divine romance of how He wooed us always and loves us still, and we are led to the heavenly wedding of His bride made up of everyone who has faith in Him and who believes. We’d love to see you,” she said.

The multimedia play will include original poetry, acting, singing and many genres of dancing, including a jive and a waltz and music with a seven-piece live band. Ahlschlager said the group doing the play is made up of volunteers of all ages and gifting – from the kids’ zone, youth, to the mature – making a cast of 50, plus those working in the backstage, lighting support, costumes and sets.

The church said the play is to portray the love everyone deserves, and it is a continuation of their charity work. “Last year, we set up a non-profit organisation (NPO) called Pinetown Development Hub to train budding entrepreneurs in and around Pinetown. In one initiative, we have partnered with Domino Foundation and are running ‘Business in a Box’ courses at HCC, training vulnerable women on how to earn an income by selling lotions and fragrances. Another initiative is ‘Work 4 a Living’, work-readiness courses run from our premises.

The public is invited to come watch the play at 18:00 on Saturday, October 15 at 10 Harvey Rd, Pinetown. Tickets are R50 for adults and R20 for kids and pensioners over 70. You can watch the play for free during the service on Sunday, October 16 from 09:00–10.45. Tickets will be available at the door or can be booked at www.highway.org.za/events.
