Woman shot on the N2 at Chesterville

A robber was detained by an off-duty security officer after a woman was shot on the N2 in Chesterville.

A woman was shot after she got out of her car to assess an obstruction on the N2 freeway at Chesterville. Medi Response paramedics reported that they responded after receiving reports of a shooting on Monday night.

“Upon arrival of the paramedics, it was established that a woman had been driving alone when she encountered rocks blocking the freeway. She stopped to assess the situation when two people approached her car, opening fire on her. She was struck by a bullet on her leg,” said Medi Response paramedics spokesperson Paul Herbst.

Herbst said an off-duty Fidelity Security manager detained one robber when he arrived on the scene to intervene.

“He proceeded to render first aid to the victim and awaited the Medi Response advanced life-support paramedics, who assumed care of the patient. The lady was stabilised and transported to hospital for further care,” he said.

Herbst applauded the officer for going beyond the call of duty.
