50 years and counting

Forest Hills couple, Robert and Vronika Dye share with the High Mail their 50 year marriage journey.

EVERY DAY still feels like 50 years ago, when they tied the knot, for Forest Hills couple Robert and Vronika Dye. The parents of two celebrated their 50th anniversary and shared their story with the Highway Mail.

Robert said he fell in love with his wife when he first set his eyes on her. “She was working as a receptionist for a friend, and I saw her then. I knew from that day that I was going to marry her. I asked her on a date, and I built a rapport with her from then,” he said.

The couple started dating in early 1972 , and tied the knot the same year on 29 July. Vronika said she is happy to have met her husband of 50 years. “He kept on calling for six months until I agreed. What attracted me to him was his neatness and how soft he was with me,” she said.

Robert and Vronika share a son and a daughter, Lee Donaldson, and Grant Dye, whom they said they have raised in love. “We believe in a happy home that is also filled with laughter, and we believe that we have been able to give our children that home,” said the couple.

Robert said they try to preserve their bond by doing hobbies together. “It is important to have something to do together as a couple, and it does not always have to involve money. Quality time spent together is very important.

“We have always learned to be patient with each other and not easily give up. It is important to know that your partner is not perfect, and you cannot change them. In our generation, life was so simple compared to now. This generation is facing a big challenge with the forever-rising economy,” he said.

Their daughter, Lee Donaldson, said she feels privileged to have been raised by her loving parents. “I have always known love and always felt like a princess. They have taught us love and respect,” she said.

The couple said they look forward to spending more years together and keep strengthening their union.
