Malvern residents vow to patrol and serve their community

The community safety organisation held its first patroller inductions for current and new patrollers.

BRAVE residents from across the Malvern policing footprint have vowed to protect and serve the community.

A new era of community policing began and neighbourhood watch groups have integrated into the Malvern Community Police Forum (CPF) precincts since early February. The community safety organisation held its first patroller inductions for current and new patrollers recently.

The Malvern CPF has 12 precincts for the Malvern patrol precinct. By adopting the SAPS Community in Blue strategy members of Malvern CPF recruited new patrollers.

“The sessions were well attended, there was an excess of more than 200 patrollers over both days. Invited members of Malvern SAPS Management, members from the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, who are our watch dogs and members of the media, joined the Malvern CPF team on the session held on Saturday,” said chairperson of Malvern CPF, Kevin Pillay.

According to Pillay, the attendees are a group of passionate individuals who are committed to keeping the Malvern community safe and crime-free.

The training material was compiled and presented by a team of in-house trainers including Stephen Nell, Elsabe Nell, George Jones, Gareth Preen and Barbara McNamara.

“The content shared empowers the patroller to perform their core function which is to be the ‘eyes and ears’ for SAPS and other Law enforcement. The material was well-received by all who attended. There were question and answer sessions, which encouraged active engagement.

“This is just the start of several more such sessions to follow in due course. Training and patroller development will also form part of an ongoing process to better equip and enable patrollers to perform their functions in keeping our community safe,” added the dedicated crime fighter.

He thanked all those who attended the induction and helped make it a success.
