Hammarsdale councillor dies after a long illness

eThekwini mayor, Mxolisi Kaunda has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the Mngwengwe family.

ETHEKWINI Municipality Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda has conveyed his condolences following the death of Hammarsdale’s Ward 91 councillor, Lucky Nhlanhla Mngwengwe.

Mngwengwe died last night, 21 January after a long illness.

Mngwengwe passed away while he was serving his third term as a ward councillor in eThekwini.

He also served in the Municipal Economic Development and Planning Committee.

“Sworn in as a councillor in 2006, Mngwengwe was passionate about service delivery and economic development. During tenure, eThekwini initiated various development projects in the ward including the Hammarsdale Junction Mall, Mpumalanga Museum and various housing projects,” said Kaunda. 

“On behalf of the people of eThekwini, we wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to the Mngwengwe family, friends and colleagues. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” said Kaunda.
