General Practitioner- Dr Konrad Dorfling

Known as Doc, Dr Konrad Dorfling’s experience as a General Practitioner covers all medical aspects and he has over two decades of experience in trauma and emergency work, which covers a wide range of symptoms from; heart attacks with CPR to gastroenteritis and kiddies with rashes and bronchitis.

From a young age Doc knew he would become a doctor. He said a day in his life offers the satisfaction of solving multiple puzzles and brings each consult to a clear diagnosis. “Every patient and every illness differs. In the process I am also able to have a significant, positive influence in somebody’s life by attending and improving what is dearest to every human being. Health and Life.”
Being a true KZNer and living in the Bluff, Everton and Ladysmith, Doc completed his medical degree at University of the Orange Free State and later a diploma in Primary Emergency Care followed. “I worked in the mining industry, completed two years of military service as a doctor and finally spent the last 26 years at Entabeni Trauma Unit in Durban.”

Apart from performing general practice consults, Doc says he would enjoy to continue in a similar line of emergency work, by seeing to injuries on duty (COID) and assisting schools in the surrounding area with trauma/sport injuries and medical care. Facts patients and friends might not know about Dr Konrad Dorfling is that he is a petrol head first, foremost and utmost. He also loves steelwork and woodwork. “I believe that if you can picture any structure in your mind, you can sketch it in scale. If you have a sketch in scale it can be made. All it needs is time and effort (and tools).”
For this Doc, shopping and supporting local is very important. “If businesses in the region are performing well, it improves your chance of doing well in a business of your own.” He maintains that honesty, empathy and a direct approach applied in a kind manner is always the best way forward when it comes to business tips, stating: “Life is a process of attrition. Never give up.”
