Meet your local pharmacist

Neeri Kisoon is an Independent Community Pharmacist with a BSc Honours in Biochemistry, which involved developing liposomal drug delivery systems. This topic sparked Neeri’s interest in wanting to know more about how medication works in the body – the only way she could accomplish this was to study further and enrol for a BPharm degree.

“From all the sectors of pharmacy that I have worked in, being a Community Pharmacist brings me immense satisfaction, especially when a patient comes back to me with appreciation for sorting out their medical problems.”

Neeri practises at Westville North Pharmacy, one of the last Independent Community Pharmacies in Westville. Many of her customers may not know that pharmacy is her third degree. “I have a BSc degree with majors in Biochemistry, Microbiology and Physiology. My second degree is a BSc Honours in Biochemistry.” Being a pharmacist for 23 years, Neeri has worked in many other sectors of pharmacy, including academia.

When it comes to supporting local, Neeri says it is very important for people to support local businesses because it helps the growth of their immediate communities. “We also build special relationships – we know most of our customers by name.” And for relaxation Neeri treasures spending time with her family and they all love watching Formula 1 racing and cooking together.

When it comes to choosing a career, Neeri says one should choose a career that brings you fulfilment and makes you want to go to work, “it doesn’t have to make you financially wealthy,” she says.

Neeri also feels educating and keeping yourself updated with the latest treatment guidelines are important for holistic treatment of patients. “Having a “never give up” mindset has made me survive in this very challenging field. I believe in treating every patient the same way that I would my very own family member – with respect, confidentiality and kindness.”

Additional services offered include a new analytical and dynamic Registered Nursing Sister, who has 22 years of experience in various medical domains. She has travelled through 28 countries and has work experience in the EU and UAE. Some of the clinic services include Baby Assessments and Vaccinations; Wellness Screening; Woman’s Wellness; Men’s Wellness; Ear syringing; Family planning; Wound care; Injections and Intravenous infusions.

“Our focus in on treating patients holistically with the most appropriate advice and treatment plan, which falls within our scope of practice.”
